从事植物结构、发育与进化生物学研究，重点研究姜科/姜目植物进化发育生物学，深入研究了现代植物园历史变迁、植物迁地保护原理及管理规范、中国植物园标准体系，长期从事园林园艺、科普教育、旅游服务及植物园管理。感兴趣的研究领域有（1）植物结构发育与进化生物学，（2）植物保育及迁地保护评价，（3）园林园艺和植物科学传播研究。
