获南京大学地理系地貌与第四纪专业理学学士学位、中国科学院地理研究所自然地理专业硕士学位、香港大学地理学专业博士学位。

   

1983-1985，中国科学院兰州沙漠研究所研究实习员。
1988-1994，中国科学院地理研究所助理研究员。
1994-2004，中国科学院地理研究所副研究员。
2004-现在，中国科学院地理科学与资源研究所研究员。

中国地理学会地貌与第四纪专业委员会委员。

        先后主持或参加国家自然科学基金面上及重大项目、国家八五攻关项目、中国科学院知识创新重要方向及领域前沿项目等科研课题十余项。主要针对黄河等流域产输沙变化过程、河道演变和三角洲地貌演化及其存在的临界和复杂响应的机理、环境变化和人为活动对流域产输沙和地貌演化的影响，以及相关的灾害和环境问题进行了探讨和研究。
