BIO

Dr. Xiyan Xu is a full professor at Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Xiyan received her Ph.D from  the City University of New York Graduate Center in December of 2013.  She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory during 2014-2016. Her primary research is the global change and land-climate interactions. She explores the interactions among climate change, human activities and ecosystem processes on multiple temporal and spatial scales, aiming to provide scientific support for climate change mitigation and ecological protection. She leads projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Xiyan is active in multiple international climate and environment programs for promoting international cooperation to combat environmental issues and bridge the gap between science and policy.  She serves as the coordinating lead author of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seventh edition of the Global Environment Outlook, lead author of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Thematic Assessment of the Interlinkages Among Biodiversity, Water, Food and Health, and chapter scientist of  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Climate Change and Land.
